What is a clinical nutritionist, and are they licensed?
A clinical nutritionist is part of the holistic medicine field. We believe in looking at the whole person, not just the foods one consumes, in developing a food plan to aid in the journey to optimal health. Cinical nutritionist can work with a range of health conditions such as high blood pressure, allergies and food sensitivities, and gut health to name a few.
Licensing is a trickier subject as the title "nutritionist" is not a protected term in all 50 states, like a dietitian. So what does this mean exactly? Depending on your state, one claiming to be a nutritionist may or may not have a license or certification. NV does not require a nutritionist to be licensed or hold a certificate.
So....where do I fit? I hold a Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health. I am a Certified Nutrition Specialist®, credentialed by the American Nutrition Association® through its Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists™. While this is not required to practice in NV, it allows clients to make a more informed choice.
